STANLEY CLARKE CHOOSES BASS ELECTRONICS FROM THE UK
Stanley Clarke has chosen customised East/ACG active electronics for his Spellbinder basses, to be used on tour, starting May 2008.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the electronics are based on a design originally commissioned with East UK, by AC Guitars in Scotland. It is 'filter based' in concept, more akin to the WAL & Alembic style of circuits than the conventional boost/cut variety, but includes additional features when compared to those earlier designs.
Stanley's Spellbinder basses have two custom humbucking pickups, each with its own EQ filter electronics and discrete output. This allows independent EQ of each pickup prior to feeding its own side of a stereo rig for live performances, as well as recordings.
Whilst in the UK, Stanley took advantage and paid John East a visit in order to have a 'minor tweak' on one of the filter sections. This way he could effectively 'audition on-line', as the work was taking place, and confirm
that the outcome was exactly to his satisfaction.
