Description

Scaling new heights in perfecting the tonal capabilities of magnetic pickups, the Delano Sonar bass preamp series is designed for just one purpose: Making a good tone even better.

As an integral part of any active bass guitar, an active EQ has to fulfill countless requirements regarding strength and clarity in tone, power consumption and installation. To meet this challenge perfectly, the time has come for a new onboard preamp: Sonar.

This smart powerhouse delivers the real thing: rocksteady bottom, cutting midrange and naturally brilliant high end. Whether adapting its tone to match the surrounding acoustics, enhancing versatility or increasing your musical expression, this preamp always feels like a natural extension, preserving all the benefits of passive operation: uncoloured, true and focused sound. Comparing the flat-set sound to bypassed full passive action you’ll detect no difference. Matchless. And with its perfectly matched band-pass filters and separated amplifier stages, adjustments stay predictable at any time without overpowering tone.

The Delano Sonar onboard preamp is housed in a sealed slim-box, which provides easy, space-saving installation and secure insulation to other electrical components. Its minimal power consumption lets you forget where your battery-box is - make a guess?

Please Note: SONAR preamps come with prewired tone pots. Volume Push/Pull & Blend Pot are enclosed.

Delano Sonar 3 is Amazing
By Kevin Murphy from on 2/24/2017

I just installed the Delano Sonar 3. It took a bass that was unusable because of a bad preamp and made it a dream to play. I am equally in love with both active and passive modes too!

Delano Sonar 3 gives dead bass new life!
By James Murphy from on 2/19/2017

I recently had my bass tech install the Delano Sonar 3 in my Ibanez BTB 767PB 6 string bass. The bass came stock with Bartolini MK II pickups and preamp. Long story short, the bass was unusable with the stock preamp in it. Installing the Sonar 3 has literally given me a new bass. I now have a 6 string bass I don't want to put down. I always loved the way the bass was built and played but it just sounded like crap. Now I don't know what I like more, active or passive mode! I don't understand why they didnt include a push pull option as the pickups are passive humbuckers. It seems like a no brainer to me. The Bartolini pickups literally came to life and I thankfully no longer want to replace them. This makes me very happy because I am yet to find a pickup replacement that will fit. The Sonar 3 is very transparent with just a slight difference between passive and active, set flat of course and in tone only, not volume, Another aspect I like is I can turn the volume all the way up and max all 3 channels of boost and still not clip!. I couldn't run at 3 quarters volume flat without clipping through the MK II. I usually run flat using the Furman parametric eq for anything I might need, so this preamp is a literal dream come true in passive or active mode. For the money it can't be beat in my opinion.

I can't wait to install the Delano JMVC or HE pickups, and the Sonar 2 in my fretless Washburn T 24! I mean no offense to Washburn as I love the build of that bass, but the electronics are junk in that bass and the bridge pick up is unusable. That being said I can still coax a very beautiful tone out of the neck pickup, and my Furman PQ4. I can only imagine how great that bass can sound with quality electronics like this in it. Thank you Best Bass gear for the great price, free shipping and most of all ULTRA FAST SHIPPING! I ordered on Tuesday evening, it was here Friday by noon, and in the bass the next day! From East Coast to West Coast zip zap just like that.

Crystal clear EQ
By Simon from on 1/7/2014

I've tried it alongside with Bartolini NTMB, MEC BEC III and Seymour Duncan preamp.
It's absolutely noise free and works very smooth and clear. It doesn't have a gain control which might be really helpful while using it with low output pickups. A good thing is the size, it's tiny and easy to install to small electronics compartments.
Good choice of frequencies for adjusting. Made in a musical way.
Tried with Warwick Streamer LX.
