A YouTube user going by username “Baltasar Guañabens” plays a song familiar to many bass players, Tom Sawyer by RUSH. And he does it on a 5-string Sire V7.
Tom Sawyer is, obviously, not an easy song to pull off (even when practicing just by yourself, never mind in a full band,) but once you get that “twangy” sound down and your fingers placed just right, it’s an amazing tune to play.
Have you ever tried to play Tom Sawyer on bass?
If you have, did you ever get the line(s) right?
Also, if you have a video of yourself playing the song, even if just a piece of it, feel free to post a link to it.
Not quite 100%, but close. It’s a tough one to nail perfectly.
There was a time when I could play the drum part…. Now on bass I could probably do it. Need to try.
I have a complete performance, but alas, it is multi-track audio-only. I do bass (with the synth sound!), lead vox and keys on it; the full Geddy.
Yeah I’ve given it a go, but damn getting it down is painfully tough
Did not sound that hard to me. May be i should try to play it and see for myself.
I’ve played “Tom Sawyer” for a real long time, but only this weekend I decided to take some time to record my modest approach to it. Such a fun song to play. Here’s the link to the video for you to check:
