Gibson 2015 SG Standard Electric Bass Guitar

This is a video from one of our competitors, but hey, it’s a cool instrument and it’s explained well.

New for this year, as is explained in the video below, is a Full Contact chrome bridge along with new fret sanding and buffing process in the build.

What do you think of Gibson’s SG bass for ’15? Cool or dud?

Watch the video below and let us know what you think.

  1. My biggest critique would be, it just doesn’t look like a Bass Guitar. The SG shaped body and the angle of the tuning heads take away from the flare I would expect in a stylish looking instrument. If you don’t care about the lines, go for it. It’s vintage Gibson.

  2. I’m pretty sure it’s a short scale which eliminates it for me.If it were a 34″scale,still wouldn’t be my choice for the price

    • 30″ scale. neck dive. too much money for it. the new eb bass in my opinion sounds good but is ugly. Gibson should reissue the Ripper bass!!

  3. I have both an original ’69 EB-3 and an early 70’s El Degas (Japanese) copy of the same EB-3. Both are much better than this…and the El Degas might be the best!

  4. It is what it is a Gibson short scale bass, if the bridge is now locked up against the body why not take it to the next level and make it a string through the body as well!!!

  5. Make it long scale, lose the 3 point connection and really join it to the body, add string thru option…Better yet, get real with pricing, across the board…!!! Then you’ll have players interested.!

  6. That’s a promotional video, they should show the best sounds the bass has to offer. And even in that environment it sounds average.

And why are bass manufacturers so afraid of switches now? In my mind that was one of the signatures of the EB-3. Not everything has to be wired as a Jazz!

  7. I’ve bought it, and I’m surprise as the quality has been improved by the old 2014 version. It’s very good bass, better than my old EB3-71, that is too much muddy for me.

  8. Great vintage tone but not like an EB3 and won’t do the same job, they should have included the varitone on it, it would make it more authentic to the original or reissued the EB3.
