Have you ever played a Zon bass?

Below is a video of a bass brand you may not have heard of (only because it’s a boutique brand without the big advertising budget like Fender has,) Zon.

Zon has been producing bass instruments since 1981, so it’s definitely not a new company. As noted in the video, something that was (and still is) special about Zon basses is that they used necks made of graphite. However, later on there were instruments produced using wood necks.

Below is a “Mojo Series” Zon, and the difference this time around is that it’s an Asian build. China, specifically. However, the bass does get the full once-over when it arrives stateside, so when you get one, it’s plays as close to perfect as it can get right out of the box.

However, even as a China-build, the Zon still commands around the same price as an American-built Fender. Then again, this is Zon design we’re talking about. It’s good stuff.

Check out the video below and let us know what you think of it.

And remember: We carry the same pickups that the Zon in the video uses.

Also, if you comment on the video itself, be sure to say that Best Bass Gear sent you, we’d appreciate it! 🙂

  1. I still own a Zon Legacy II that was one of the last basses Joe delivered in Buffalo prior to his move to California in 1984-85? It’s a great instrument that always stands proud in the mix. I’ve used it for a number of recording gigs over the years and engineers love the sound. It’s still the Java Green Mean Machine!

  2. I’ve owned several Zon’s over the years and every one was outstanding. Their 5 string necks are my all time favorites. Their quality is flawless and they sound great. If the economy hadn’t tanked and I could still afford to own some high end basses, there’d be at lest a couple Zon’s in there.
