Tony Cochran’s Greyhoundcaster

Tony Cochran’s eccentric take on custom guitar building is like none other. When he gets his hands on an old guitar it takes on a whole-new life. Widgets and gadgets, rivets and thingamajigs. His aesthetic is some concoction of Tim Burton and steampunk. Cochran’s guitars look like they come from the cover of a lost sci-fi dystopian paperback featuring a wayward troubadour protagonist.

And they each have a story. Or a rumor. Believe however much you’d like.

The latest from Tony Chohran Guitars is the Greyhoundcaster Bass. And rumor has it …

This bass guitar was found in the wreckage of a Greyhound bus that ran off the road in 1951. There were only 6 people on the bus . . . the driver, 2 very deaf women from Huntsville, Alabama, a senator from Maine with his mistress, and a 12 year old off to visit his Grandmother in Tulsa. None checked in a guitar as luggage. There was a hand written note inside the case, on a thin sheet of rice paper. It said, “IT’S NOT MINE”. . . . Weird.

Like all of his builds, the Greyhoundcaster does not sacrifice functionality. It is fully armed and operational.

  1. ozone is right. That is an ’80s bass at the least. It seems to have DiMarzio pickups, and moreover, that body style was certainly not around in the early ’50s. Sham. Don’t try to fool people, it’s bad karma.

    • I think that the ‘rumor’ was intended as a comic relief, and not to be taken literally. And a clever one, if I may 😉

  2. It could have been left in the wreckage by someone sometime ago, the body looks like that of an Ibanez Sound Gear’s, impossible to be from the 50’s

    • Hey Man, Great sound. I watched your ttairoul and I’m having problems working with Superior Drummer to get the multi-channel out (I just got the plugin two days ago). The specific problem is this: when going into Superior’s mixer, I can’t select stereo outs (Out 1/2, Out 3/4, etc.) it only gives me the option of selecting individual outs (Out 1, Out 2, etc). Can you please help out? Greatly Appreciated Man!Adrian

  3. KOSS spark plugs, they also cancel out noise and give relaly good bass or Sennheiser CX 300s again they give great bass. or you could spend a bit more money and go for a Shure srh-240. the Skullcandy pair mentioned aren’t very good and don’t relaly deliver good bass without adjusting the eq quite a bit

  4. Kevin, side note, although I repecst you and how you want everyone to know that you are a big ranger fan and acknowledge the fact that you hold a lot of pride in the cup winning 94 team but every time I see your email address I twinge. Currently it looks like you are a big fan of #94? Why couldnt he wear another number? Why?

  5. Disney in general is rasict, I’ll give you that. But if Pocahontas is rasict, then maybe that’s where the allegations that Avatar is as well are coming from: The fact that it’s a rewrite.Just so you know, I’m not saying the movie was terrible- there were several things about it I liked, such as the time spent developing Jake’s character, and how he eventually began to question which life was right, which was the dream. I also liked how it was confounded by his continuing to work for the military to gain ground against the Na’vi.Really, I just find the whole Pocahontas rewrite thing more funny than disappointing. My only other regret is that the Na’vi movement animation was stiffer than it should have been.

  6. In terms of basic story you could just as well say that Fightclub is a rewrite of 50 First Dates (or vice versa, wihehcver came first). Boy meets girl, boy and girl have issues because of modern social feature x, boy and girl settle issues in an idiosyncratic way. All that that proves is that judging things by basic story is a shallow form of analysis that tells you nothing of any value at all.
