[Bass of the Week] Michael Emmerling Kermit

The devil makes work for idle hands. In this case, waiting for a Dingwall inspired the construction of a Dingwall-like instrument.

Bass builder Michael Emmerling writes:

Inspired by waiting for a Dingwall, and the Dingwall quality, I started building. Kermit is my third completed bass.

Body is made of silky oak and northern ash, contrast layer is ziricote, top is spalted maple.

Neck is one-piece wenge with dual action truss rod and two carbon rods, a ziricote fretboard with 24 frets multiscale (36″ to 33″) with zero fret, headstock with a matching spalted maple layer. The side markers are Luminlay.

Truss rod cover is ziricote with Luminlay inlays showing the Big Dipper constellation (my first build – not this one – was very neck-heavy, a “big dipper” 🙂 ).

Hardware is Hipshot Ultralite tuners, Hipshot Solo bridges mounted on a block of rock maple, and Dunlop Flushmounts.

With the electronics I couldn’t go past the Nordstrand FD3 pickups paired with the Glockenklang 3-band pre (replaced the blend know with a 4-way rotary pickup selector) – it works so very well in my Dingwall, and it brings out similar som=nic qualities in this build.

Well done!
