The body for this bass was literally thrown across the shop floor due to a build error originally. But then it was dug out, fixed up and the end result is pretty darned good.
Jim Warren from www.sanctumguitars.com writes:
We made a mirror-polished Sanctum Raven 5-string for Brian Wheat of Tesla – there was a mistake in scale-length calculations for the body, and it was scrapped (literally thrown across the shop and bounced off a wall!) The body was re-machined, and Wheat’s bass was delivered. Months later, we wanted to try out a new engraving tool, so we wrote toolpaths for an American flag and dug the body out of the scrap pile. the engraving came out so good that we commissioned master luthier Michael Boggeman to make a custom neck to correct the scale issue. The finished product still bears the scars of the flight across the shop, but is a special guitar that plays and sounds incredible. Full, rich bottom end, growling mids, and good treble balance, with out-of-this-world sustain and harmonics, typical of Sanctum’s renowned basses.
Well done!
