Calculating String Spacing for Bridges

Measure from the center of the highest string to the center of the lowest string over the saddles.

In the example shown, starting at 100mm and ending at 157mm, the string spacing is about 57mm total.

Most commonly, the measurement is given in the string-to-string spacing by bridge manufacturers. It is most accurate to take an overall measurement of the total string spacing and divide by the number of strings minus 1.

In this case, 57mm total string spacing divided by 3 gives us a string-to-string spacing of 19mm (0.750″).

Both inches and millimeter measurement units are used by bridge manufacturers.
