Lug assignments on long threaded barrel jacks

Use this tip sheet if you need to figure out how to wire a long threaded barrel jack into your bass.

This sheet covers the long threaded barrel jacks from Switchcraft that we sell, but may be relevant to your bass as well if it has this style of jack.

Chrome and gold jacks:

  • The lug for the hot signal (tip) will be the shortest lug coming from the jack
  • The lug for battery will be the one slightly longer (left open if bass is completely passive)
  • The lug for the ground will be the much larger one with the bend down tabs

Black jacks:

  • The lug for the hot signal (tip) will be the shortest lug coming from the jack (this lug has a slight curve)
  • The lug for battery will be the one slightly longer (left open if bass is completely passive) (this lug has a slight curve)
  • The lug for the ground will be similar height to the battery lug, but will be flat and slightly wider.
