Hipshot Xtender
By Frank

I am a luthier. Lately, many of my five-string players have been switching from low B tuning to high C tuning because they simply do not get enough opportunities to justify carrying around a fifth string that hardly gets any use and it's easier going ACROSS the fingerboard than moving UP into higher positions.

Recently, one player with high C tuning needed to go lower due to a change in his band's music. He needed the occasional low B, but not enough to justify going back to the low B tuning or changing to a six-string.

The answer ws easy: Put a Hipshot Xtender on the E string and drop it down for the two or three tunes for which he needed a low B.

The Hipshot Xtender, with his normal string gauge, went down to D with no floppiness to the string, but when he went lower than that, the string got progressively floppier as he went down in pitch, so I went up to a heavier gauge on his E string and it is now as solid as a rock.
