Low Tension Flexible Flatwounds

Stainless Steel

La Bella Strings is taking a new approach to flat wound bass strings - the result is the LIGHT TENSION FLEXIBLE FLATS series. Using the same techniques that have made the Deep Talkin' Bass Stainless Steel Flat Wounds the best-selling flat wound set on the market, La Bella has adjusted the construction to create a lighter and more flexible alternative to our classic heavier flats.

The Light Tension Flexible Flats deliver the same classic sound but without the floppy-string effect associated with other light tension flat wound strings. These hand-wound and hand-polished strings are equipped with round cores for flexibility, and narrower ribbon wire to achieve that unrivaled smooth feeling uniquely characteristic to La Bella Strings.

  • Stainless Steel Flat Wound
  • Round cores for greater flexibility and narrower ribbon for an unrivaled smooth feeling
  • Light Tension
  • Total Tension in Lbs: 134.90 (1st 36.2, 2nd 34, 3rd 30.5, 4th 34.2)
  • String Gauges: .042, .056, .070, .100
  • Made in the USA with American Wire

Not really "low tension"
By Adam

I'd been interested in trying these strings, as most flats tended to feel really stiff, even at lower gauges. Of course, TI Jazz flats buck that trend like mad, so when these came recommended as a lower priced alternative, I was really hoping they'd offer a similar feel for half the cost.
Unfortunately, they don't and that was kind of a let down.
It's not that they are bad strings by any means. Many folks insist that these are fantastic and last forever. Being stainless, too, they are great if you're allergic to nickel and can't use TI flats. But while they may not be AS STIFF feeling as something like Chromes, they are pretty much more like a slightly lower tension - possibly akin to rounds in some degree - but I wouldn't describe them as LOW TENSION, in the sense that TI are.
For the price, these compare well to other similarly or lower priced strings that essentially do the same thing for feel. They seem to be good strings and earn a nice rep for sounding good and lasting a long time. They just aren't as low tension as I'd hoped for.

great bass string

Bought because 344's were to expensive to put on a cheap bass, a Squire fretless P bass $299. These, I like more than their more expensive cousins. Best is the "feel" 2nd is the tone. They work at both ends. Sweet in the sweat spots. The "E" stands out on lower notes, it doesn't just thump, there is tone galore. Will buy again. Superior product.
