Lakland has been offering some of the most well respected instruments for discerning players and professional artists worldwide since the 1990's.

The name Lakland is an amalgamation of the two company creaters last names'; Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland. The name, pronounced Lake-land, has become a house hold name among musical circles.

Lakland basses went into full production in 1995 with instrument annual output rising 500 a year each year by the end of the decade.Their models have well respected Vintage style designs with a modern twist. Originally Lakland basses were equipped with Bartolini pickups and electronics they know feature their own in house built electronics from Lakland-Hanson. Aside from the vintage inspired offerings they also built signature models for artists including:

  • Joe Osborn with his own Jazz Bass style instrument.
  • Bob Glaub with a P-bass style instrument with both P and J nut spacings.
  • Darryl Jones with his own Jazz Bass style instrument instrument in 4 and 5-String models.

Lakland also teamed up with top builder Michael Tobias to co-design their own Hollowbody bass.

Aside from building basses, Lakland start designing their own pickups and onboard electronics for many of their own models. Lakland-Hanson electronics can be found on many models with standard style pickup designs in Jazz Bass and P-bass Style as well as their unique Chi-Sonic pickups in a soapbar humcancelling design.

They are also a manufacturer of high end strings that are used on their own basses.
