The active JC5 AX pickups are split coil humbuckers in American Standard® format.

We have found a way to combine the vintage construction technique (fiber coil body with AlNiCo 5 magnets and formvar wire) with modern micro-electronics. You can't tell the difference from the looks. AX-Series pickups can be combined with with passive controls without the need of special pots. An A250K / 47nF tone blend will work perfectly, giving you a hum-free 5-string that can deliver a typical vintage-soundrange, as well as modern tones if used with active tone controls.
