This week’s selection is from Sasha Radicic. He built this short scale bass himself. Here’s the story in his own words:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to build a short scale bass but bit longer string length than 30,5\u201d. So this one ended up being 30 3\/4\u201d but more precisely I originally built it to be 780 mm. It is actually neck thru bass , center piece is hard maple and the wings are actually local wood, very resonant\/acoustic – it is called Catalpa! It is not as heavy as northern ash. Looks like swamp ash but with greenish beige hue to it.<\/p>

The fretboard is 16\u201d radius Mexican Catalox inlaid with blocks of real mother of pearl. <\/p>

The pickups are mixed brands, middle pup is DiMarzio Split P <\/a>with rails to accommodate for narrower bridge string spacing 11\/16\u201d  and the bridge pickup is Bartolini J 42 J Quad coil.<\/a> The powerful, passive Split P needed companion in the bridge position, to match its power and quad coil Bartolini<\/a> was my top pick.<\/p>

Electronic is also passive, basically it is a identical to jazz bass configuration, vol. vol. tone.<\/p>

String set used is 45-105\u201d gauge by Ernie Ball.<\/a> <\/p>

Tuning Machines are Gotoh<\/a>. <\/p>

Bridge<\/a> is made by Hipshot, narrow spacing. <\/p>

Nut is 1,5\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
