If you’ve got an extra $100,000 burning a hole in your pocket we’ve got something you might be interested in: a Hofner Violin Bass autographed by Sir Paul McCartney himself.<\/p>\n

The proceeds from the auction\u00a0will benefit Nordoff Robbins<\/a>, a\u00a0music therapy charity that works with those suffering from\u00a0illness, disability, and trauma.<\/p>\n

The auction will take place at the\u00a0charity’s annual Silver Clef Awards, and is expected to fetch a tidy sum. Last McCartney signed bass that hit auction netted\u00a0\u00a360,000, or nearly $100,000.<\/p>\n

McCartney, a long-time supporter of the organization, wrote on his website<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“I am delighted to have signed and donated this very special left-handed Hofner bass in order to raise funds for Nordoff Robbins. The work they do with music therapy transforms the lives of vulnerable children and adults across the UK, and I hope the sale of this guitar raises lots of money! Rock on!”<\/p>\n

According to The Beatles Online<\/a> McCartney first came to what would become his trademark bass because he was nearly broke and he thought he looked “daft” because he was left-handed.<\/p>\n

Fenders even then seemed to be around \u00a3100. All I could afford really was about \u00a330. Always teetering on the edge of not having much \u2013 so I didn\u2019t really want to spend that much. So\u2026 I found this Hofner violin bass. And to me it seemed like, because I was left-handed, it looked less daft because it was symmetrical. So I got into that. That became my main bass.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
