Our awesome tech Max sat down and talked with\u00a0Tom Ambrose<\/a>, who has a rich career as a bassist. He has been classical trained as an upright bassist, played with B.B. King once, taught scores of young players, and is currently gigging with the Rick Miller Band and singer\/songwriter Travis Humphrey.<\/p>\n I started to be able to control the electric bass in a way that was musical to me. I started to find my voice on the electric bass. And once that started to happen I started to get really into figuring out the right combination of basses, strings, amps, and pickups. I got really obsessed with it for about 8 years. I\u2019ve owned hundred. Hell, at least a 100 Lakland basses. And I\u2019ve owned many combinations of amps, including Phil Jones, Eden, Epiphone. I just tried so many different combinations of amps and electronics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n We had some laughs with a few memes, asking\u00a0how to get a drummer off your front porch<\/a>\u00a0and letting you know\u00a0what can happen when you solo on bass<\/a>.<\/p>\n And in a video How-to Max also walked us through installing the Victor Wooten Retrofit combo<\/a>, and gave us some great tips and tricks along the way.<\/p>\n We also had some great Bass of the Week\u00a0submissions. Peter Jeraj had a custom fretted\/fretless pair of basses<\/a>, Mark Bombard had a beautiful semi-hollowbody<\/a>, and Philippe Mastrogiusepee custom built his bass with a Torzal Twist neck from Little Guitars<\/a>.<\/p>\n And we took at look at hearing damage<\/a>, which prompted a great discussion on Facebook about wearing hearing protection<\/a>.<\/p>\n August was great month in the bass community.
