This week’s BotW takes a classic design and reimagines it into something much more exotic and with more features.<\/p>\n

I had a Japanese short scale copy of EB-3 for a long time and always wanted to add a bit of flavour to the classics, so after a few hours of brainstorming the idea with the luthier we came up with the idea of making a neck-thru version of Gibson SG bass. <\/p>\n

The neck is 5 piece made of wenge and bubinga, fretboard is also wenge. <\/p>\n

The body is made of two massive ash wings and covered with a beautiful quartersawn top. <\/p>\n

The circuit is all passive with two different mudbucker-like pickups, the neck one is more closer to classic with Alnico 5 magnets and the bridge one is a personal take on the mudbucker design with even more winding and ceramic magnet for more bridge-punch. Each pickup is equipped with additional coil tap and passive frequency filter. <\/p>\n

The hardware is Gotoh Japan made Gibson 3 stud bridge and Gibson-like tuners also made by Gotoh<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The bass weighs a bit more than a Peavey T-40 and has insane amounts of sustain and punch on bridge position, but on the other hand it can be subtle when switched to neck position. <\/p>\n

All in all, I’m really happy with this build.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
