The feature bass for this week is a back-to-basics P-Bass build.<\/p>\n

I have been a J bass player for about 20 years or so, but decided to revisit the P bass. I decided to build my own. The body is a stock Fender P bass body, made of alder. The neck is from Warmoth. It is a maple neck, with maple fretboard in a vintage nitro satin finish and a Tele style headstock. 6150 jumbo fret wire and black block inlays. The tuners are Hipshot HB2 “Lollypop” style<\/a>. The pickguard is a hand carved piece of maple I found on Ebay from a guy in Canada, I can’t remember his name. Pickups are a custom wound set from Scott Miller of Stonewall Pickups in New Hampshire. I went with 250k CTS pots, and a 0.047uF Orange Drop cap. I used a Hipshot type A bridge<\/a> and drilled out for string-through-body. The neckplate is from Doug’s Custom Neckplates, and he did a killer job with it. I had to notch out the body under the pickguard to accommodate an allen wrench for truss rod adjustments. I added the chrome tug bar, and went with chrome Tele style knobs. I use Rotosound flat wound strings, 45-105. This thing plays like a dream, and the oversized magnets in the pickups sound great. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
