Bass on the Broadband<\/a>, the world’s first radio station devoted entirely to the bass instrument, went live Sunday afternoon, broadcasting the work of bassists across the globe to anyone with an internet connection.<\/p>\n

“I just pluck strings, so starting a radio station from scratch is one hell of an undertaking,” Grammy-nominated bassist Brian Bromberg posted on the station’s Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bromberg,\u00a0renown\u00a0for his work touring and recording with a diverse and impressive list of some of our time’s greatest artists, created the station with the idea of bolstering the global bass community. The station plans on playing music from all genres and styles, getting the work of bass players who wouldn’t normally be recognized by commercial radio to an audience that will appreciate it.<\/p>\n

Though Bass on the Broadband has plans to go beyond merely playing music. Along with live broadcasts and recording sessions they will be broadcasting workshops, lessons, and round table discussions, all with some of the world’s greatest bass players.<\/p>\n

After some technical difficulties in launching the station, including showing up on Sunday only to discover a widespread internet service\u00a0interruption in the LA metro area, the station began it’s 24-hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week broadcast a little after 2PM PST.<\/p>\n

The stream is available in a wide-variety of formats including for Winamp, Windows Media, Quicktime, and Real One players, with work currently underway to expand to a web player, apps, and podcast downloads.<\/p>\n

Along with the broadcast the Bass on the Broadband website<\/a> promises to offers columns from bass luthiers David Gage and Mick Donner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
