The feature bass for this week is a simple P-Bass lefty build. Sometimes the simple stuff is what works best.<\/p>\n

This is my first attempt at building a musical instrument.  I have always been interested in the electric bass, and as a reasonably experienced woodworker I thought this was within my ability level.  The Precision Bass is a simple concept so that’s what I chose.  I should point out that this is the instrument I am learning to play on!<\/p>\n

The wood is scraps I had lying around, laminated mahogany through-neck and Baltic Birch plywood for the body wings.  The consistent layering of the plywood results in an interesting look once the body is carved.  The headstock, though Fender shaped is actually angled and does away with the need for a string tree.  The headstock is also laminated with black-white-black pick-guard material that I had a local sign shop engrave for me, they also cut out the pick-guard as well.  The maple for the fretboard is actually from Home Depot!  Frets are nickel medium jumbos.<\/p>\n

The specs are pretty standard, 34″ scale, Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups<\/strong><\/a>, red Corian nut, Schaller bridge and tuners.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
