EMG Pickups

For almost 36 years, EMG has created quality pickups and electronic accessories for the bass enthusiast.EMG has been the choice of many manufacturers' factory installs and the choice among many of the leading bass players in the industry. Available in Classic J-Bass,Precision (P), MusicMan(MM),HB (Steinberger), and EMG 35/40/45 shapes.

EMG's mission is to be one of the most influential and undisputed technological leaders in the pickup and guitar electronics industry by creating exceptional products that empower and inspire musicians around the globe to explore and express their passion for performance.

EMG pickups was founded by Rob Tuner in 1974 in the back of his parents garage mildly tweaking and repairing electronics. It wasn't until 1969 that the real 'business' of building and tweaking pickups manifested. The original business was licensed under the name Dirtywork Studios in April 1976. In 1978 the company decided a name change was in order and transistioned to calling themselves Overlend because they were overextended on credit and it sounded slick. The 80's approached and they became EMG, Inc. and haven't made a step back since. Many folks still question the meaning of the acronymical name, but the secret has been revealed as "Electro-Magnetic Generator!".

There is no pickup on Earth quite built like an EMG pickup. The coils are precision wound, matched both resistively & inductively, and vacuum sealed. Many of the EMG models use a blade/rail style magnet build, but if you are a fan of exposed poles for that sharp and percussive attack EMG has a model for you.

On EMG active models the internal preamplifier used is no ordinary preamp. Built into each pickup directly, the preamp is an integral part of the pickup's design assuring a quality of sound performance, incredible noise reduction, and ease of install. The beauty of the internal preamplification on active models is the Low Impedance Output. You can easily run from your instrument cable lenghts of 100 feet(30 meters) without loss of high frequency response. The Low Impedance output also prevents any loss of tone through signal processing equipment such as effect pedals.

EMG doesn't manufacture just active pickups, though they have been known as the premier in "Active" pickups. Their passive pickups have been well known since 1984 and have been found on Steinberger instruments for example.

EMG Pickups are available to suit your needs for your 4,5, or 6 string upgrade or custom build.Enjoy the EMG Sound!
