Great new pickups - great replacement for Bartolini MK I's in a Lakland Skyline 55-01
By James from on 6/1/2016
I replaced the stock Bartolini MK I preamp in this bass quite a while back with the upgraded USA NMTB Bartolini unit, but still wasn't happy with the sound. I had been planning on going with either Nordstrand Big Singles or Big Splits, when I found out about the new Big Blades. I loved their look, so thought I'd give them a try. I've had them in for a couple of weeks now, and have played them quite a bit at home, and two Sunday mornings with our church praise and worship team. So far I love them. I found that for my setup I needed to roll on some mids and roll off some lows, and I'm getting a much better sound than before. They cut through the mix better, are less boomy and vague, and more aggressive. I am loving the sound, and have no regrets. They are single coil, of course, so when I pan to either pickup they buzz, but that is expected. I am normally playing centered between the two.
