Seymour Duncan

With 30 years in the business Seymour Duncan has been manufacturing some of the finest pickups under the "Bassline" and Antiquity 1 and 2 series. Seymour Duncan's mission is to create top-quality musical products to satisfy your needs.

Seymour Duncan musical products started with Seymour W. Duncan, the founding father, guitarist and repairman behind the brand. Born in New Jersey Seymour grew up in the golden age of modern music, the 1950's and 60's. His inspiration was built around musical legends of the likes of Charlie Christina, Chet Atkins, and Les Paul.

After having a pickup fail on him mid-gig and being forced to carry on with only a single pickup he decided to undertake rewinding the pickup himself utilizing only a crude record player revolving at 33 1/3 rpm to handle the rewind.

Not content with just playing an instrument Duncan began delving deeper into the engineering of guitars and how each piece changed the characteristics of tone. Seeing one of the roots of the tonal characteristics in the dynamics and differences of pickups Duncan set about building pickups of his own design.

His repair skills and pickup winds have been utilized by some of the greatest names in music including Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck and many others.

During this same era he established contact with some of the musical industry luminaries including Leo Fender, Les Paul, and Seth Lover and from this continued experimenting with pickup design. Word spread and by the late 70's Duncan had become practically a household name. In 1976 he established a full fledge company with Cathy Carter Duncan that has since grown to over 100 employees whose skills and dedication result in a continual refinement of guitar electronics. You can clearly fell the skill and experience in music in each of their pickups and onboard electronics. Get inspired by your own unique sound with Duncan pickups and onboard preamps.
