The feature bass this week has cherry wood that is 70 years old!
Builder Zak Yannarella writes:
This is a handcrafted 34″ scale 4 string bass. Its neck dimensions and pick-up placements are similar to that of a Jazz Bass. The body is ash with a 1/4 thick veneer of cherry, this cherry tree was cut and milled some 70 years ago, it actually stood in my grandfathers grandparents front yard in Staten Island. When it was cut down my grandfather collected it and had it milled, I inherited it when he passed. The neck is solid Cocobolo placed in a hybrid neck thru type way. I made the bridge from solid chunks of brass and the nut I shaped from vintage cow bone. The tuners are Gotoh and the pick-ups are vintage spec. Fender Jazz wired with CTS potts. Vintage Emerson tone cap. and cloth type wires. The finish on this one is a proprietary blend of tung oil, varnish and wax. Enjoy!

Well done!

Sweet bass!
Really nice craftsmanship!
I appreciate the way you styled the headstock, it’s nicely underdone.
What a beautiful piece of craftsmanship!! Would love to see a demo video of this bass though!! Hear the sound of this bad boy!!
Eddie, Ill get you a video demo! Give me a day… Thanks for selecting my build Best Bass Gear!
Love the way you shaped the body to bring out the grain pattern of the cherry.
that hybrid neck thru looks insane… mind explaining more?
I assume he means hybrid by the way the neck is set into a pocket on the body and runs full length. Look at the back of the bass. Looks just like a bolt on minus bolts. Then look at the front of the body notice the neck runs full length. So in essence he’s created a hybrid of the two. Also notice the way the neck flares into a horn shape under and behind the bridge. Subtle and elegant!
Correct Brandon! And the round thing on the back is a removable plug allowing access to the truss rod.
Beautiful bass! I also love the scallops in the nut! A little thing that could go unnoticed but a very cool addition.. From a fellow builder, awesome bass. I’d love to play it and see the custom bridge in person. Be proud of this instrument. This is what boutique builds are all about!!
Where are you located Brandon?
Milwaukee, Wi
Beautiful bass! Would also love to see a demo video.
Zeke, I’d love to hear (oe see!) a clip of what this thing sounds like!
I love the fact that you left the knot in there! One of a kind piece! Very impressive! And the flared neck joint is fantastic! Love it..
Great work man!
She looks sweet! I would love to hear her too please
Would love to see a video, the build is amazing, each of the components brings not only a visual but a specific tonal function. I agree the headstock is perfectly under stated. Thanks for sharing.
