This week we sat down with Mark Nye, from Cheltenham, UK.
eBass: So, what sort of bass are you playing these days?
Mark: Sandberg Marlowe DK and Status Fretless
eBass: Nice! Any customization or gear mods?
Mark: It’s a Jazz bass with Audere pre, Babicz Bridge and Bartolinis with a Status Fretless neck! Not much is original.
eBass: So what inspired you to get started?
Mark: The wwner of the local guitar shop. He played Jaco lick like a demon. Forget guitar playing, I was gonna be a bass player!
eBass: It’s amazing what an in-person experience will do to someone isn’t it!? So, what’s the toughest gig you ever played?
Mark: Touring Finland 🇫🇮 in -30c temperatures. The gigs were in small clubs. We spoke no Finnish and away from Helsinki very few people seemed to speak English. It kinda limited my usually flowing banter!
eBass: That must have been crazy. I wonder what that cold did to your gear? So who’s your current inspiration these days?
Mark: Jaco, Pino, Chic… gotta have a groove.
eBass: Sweet. And…your biggest fan?
Mark: Milly, the drummer in the band. We’ve been the rhythm section for the last 16 years!
eBass: 16 years? That’s awesome you’ve been together so long. You don’t see that too often. Well, it was great talking with you and getting to know you a little. I enjoyed it! Do you have a video or something we could show the folks at home?
Mark: Sure thing, here’s us rocking out to “You can Call Me Al”…
