Bass of the Week: Philippe Mastrogiuseppe

About a month ago Jerome Little of Little Guitars wrote a post here at e:Bass detailing the unique ergonomic design of his Torzal Twist bass. This week’s BotW comes from Philippe Mastrogiuseppe who used a Torzal Twist neck in building this beautiful 5-string.

“I built the body, and then sent it out to Austin, Texas to have a neck built by Jerome. He was super friendly and professional, as you probably already know, and made me this fantastic 5-string walnut and padouk neck with a gorgeous cocobolo fingerboard. He even made a matching headstock plate from scraps of Goncalo Alves I used for the top. The chambered body is made of birch. The bridge is from ETS, the tuners are Hipshot Ultralights, the electronics are Nordstrand Fat Stacks pickups with a Glockenklang preamp.

“Jerome set up the bass before shipping it back to me, and even though I had to reassemble the bass when I received it, it played like butter out of the box. The string to string clarity is excellent, none of that muddy stuff. Long story short, I’m extremely happy with Jerome’s work, and he definitely deserves more recognition.”

  1. Although I would’ve preferred if you went into a litlte bit more detail, I still got the gist of what you meant. Will definitely come back for more of this. Great work
