[Bass of the Week] Better Mousetrap Bass

It may have a “body like a Mousetrap”, but believe me, this BotW has wood that is far superior than any that was ever used to catch a mouse with. 🙂

So I went to a local show (Taproot) and the bassist’s bass (Phil Lipscomb) really caught my eye. It looked amazing and sounded great as well. It was definitely a breath of fresh air as the area of the country that I’m in doesn’t usually get good shows and even more rarely does a bass on stage actually intrigue me.

I chit chatted with Phil for a while after the show and he put in contact with the Matt Kiefer, the luthier of the bass he was playing (Better Mousetrap Guitars). To shorten the story, a few weeks later my deposit was sent to Matt and the anxiety began. Matt at Better MouseTrap Guitars has been outstanding with excellent communication, patience, and attention to detail. A true class act. I cannot speak highly enough of him.

The specs of the bass are as follows:

· Better Mousetrap Guitars single-cut body shape

· 35″ scale, 24 frets

· White Ash wings

· Maple and purpleheart neck

· Curly purpleheart fretboard

· Ash headstock

· Purpleheart knobs

· Purpleheart electronics cover with Better Mousetrap Guitars logo inlay

· Nordstrand DC pickups with Series-Split-Parallel mini-switches

· Aguilar OBP3 preamp

· Vol w/P-P to passive with blend and separate  bass, middle w/P-P frequency select, and treble knobs

· Black Hipshot Ultralite tuners

· Black Hipshot A-style bridge

The wait has been a wild ride, but I am so very pleased with the outcome. It’s such a gorgeous instrument. The wait has only been around 4 months and it will be delivered in a couple weeks personally by the band Taproot at their next show that is relatively near me (5 hours away). I know Matt custom ordered the Nordstrand pickups through you guys as the spacing is not standard for Nordstrand.
