A Musicvox Spaceranger bass guitar makes an appearance on YouTube!
Before you judge it, consider it’s “not just another Fender clone”. Sometimes when you want to go different, you have to go a bit wacky. And the Spaceranger is definitely a bit wacky.
Musicvox’s angle is that vintage period of the 50s and 60s where guitar design was really daring, as evidenced by this on their home page:

It doesn’t get too much more retro-cool than that.
“BUT HOW DOES IT SOUND?”, you may be asking.
See video below. And be sure to post a comment or two about it.

looks stupid, but sounds like most basses
Very unusual design, wouldn’t be my pick, however, it sounds very good and looks like it’s easy on the hands
Sounds ok, but I could never play a bass with that stupid-looking headstock. What were they thinking? Wonder how many they sell (sold)?
Reminds me of an old Seinfeld episode.
“He took it out…”
“IT…. Out.”
I guess it’s cool for that guy, but it’s not exactly Steve Harris, is it?
Zsolt is very good player can make it sound alright but I really don’t think it sounds very good at all. I’ll stick with my Musicman.
I doubt manu numetal bands will be lining up to buy them, but there’s bound to be a market with the hippster douchebag crowd
LOL @ “hipster douchebag crowd” excellent!
Bass doesn’t sound nearly decent enough to justify playing that monstrosity.
That thing has got be WAY neck-heavy!
Yes, Space Ranger for space cadet. My first reaction was why da fudge would anyone want that? The answer is in the name.
Actually, Space Cadet is another model from Musicvox, which is a 12-string bass guitar (yes really).
‘Space the final frontier’… the elongated cutaway and the wierd headstock is what set me aback. I do like the two piece bridge; reminds me of Warwick and Hamer basses.
Yet another proof that a competent bassist can make any bass sound good.
fat pickups yield obese fatness= see EBO
The headstock reminds me of a kidney bean. Perhaps I will be the guy to coin the term “bean headstock”
Love the sound! But hate the look.
Maybe a stupid looking headstock but it allows the E string to be extended well beyond the nut giving it a truer, yes it’s a word, tone. I don’t know why more builders don’t do this especially on basses with low B’s.
I like it. I think it is refreshing to see a new look. The bass sounds great too.
with the right gear a cigar box with rubberbands on it will sound good too. it would be lighter and maybe a tad bit better looking. the guys hat does give it a little bit of gravitis of a cool ax. not for me though. hahahahahaa
That is one ugly bass… heck, it might even qualify as two ugly basses
