This week’s feature bass was built with a little help from his friends, which fortunately included a luthier. 🙂

I started playing Bass approximately 11 years ago and ever since then I have always wanted to build my own. My uncle had bought some wood with the intention of having a bass made for himself. However, fortunately for me, this bass build was never started and he was kind enough to give me the wood. Not knowing anything about building guitars I spent every spare second of the day watching videos on line and reading as many articles as possible. I would mark up the wood and check all my measurements over and over again, trying to build up the courage to make the first cut. What made it harder was the fact that my work shop was actually my Parents dining room, and my work bench was actually the dining room table! Fortunately my uncle had introduced me to one of his friends, David Cammish, who has over thirty years worth of experience working as a Luthier. David has been a huge help during this build with his wealth of knowledge and ability to get me out of sticky situations when things didn’t quiet go to plan, on more then one occasion! I’ve certainly learned a lot and I am definitely going to continue building more bass guitars in the future.

Well done, Simon!

Beautiful job! I am sure that you have years of enjoyment playing this bass. There’s nothing like making music from an instrument you’ve made with a story about it to boot! Congrats Dave
