Bass of the Week: Francis James Hunnycut

This weeks BotW comes from Francis James Hunnycut, who had it built for him by his own brother.

“My little brother, Steve Davis, made this bass for me at the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery. Note the white and black walnut fretboard, and my initials for the 12th inlay.

She is sportin’ a fat Bartolini pickup, and he put in a bypass, so I can run it passive if I drain the battery. He also put on a Hipshot for instant drop tuning. The inlays, run on a separate battery, have a toggle that lights them up on demand for those darker venues … oh yeah, he made the string spacing a little wider so to accommodate aggressive slapping. This bass rules!”

  1. Great looking bass! My local luthier and friend is also a Roberto Venn graduate.

I really like the hard case that it appears to be in. What kind is that – where can I get one??

    • Nice. I’ve been checking out the Roberto Venn website, it looks pretty awesome. Does your friend have a website or anything that we can check out some pics of his work?
