Friday Work Whistle: Lars Has Band Drama

In my experience of playing with bands, the bass player is always the guy who is the least drama-prone. I’ve not once ever seen a bass player in any band act like a prima donna. Whenever band drama happens, what I usually see is the bass player dude standing there, not saying anything (very much on purpose), watching everyone else argue, then at one point he says, “F**k this, I’m going out for a beer”, and does just that. He returns later and hopefully by that point the argument between the other band mates is over. If he doesn’t duck out for a brew, alternatively he’ll (try to) act as the diplomat and do the “Hey, let’s all just get along” thing. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn’t.

Bass players are not a source of band drama. But everyone else is.

(Note: The above is an older video but it really drives home the point of who the real prima donnas are, meaning it’s never the bass player.)

  1. My experience with drummers is similar. Singers I guess could be thrown in the primadonna field as well. Drummers IMHO are unreliable, and complain incessantly about toting their gear around.
