That is absolutely true, but to dirffeent degrees with dirffeent pickups. If the two coils of the pickup are very similar as on many pickups, it doesn’t make so much difference. But if there is a big disparity between them, you’ll get a major difference in sound by how you orient them. I noticed this on a Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell that I installed in one of my Les Pauls years ago.
