I’m sure the bass purists out there are going to instantly say “WASTE OF TIME!!11!11!!” just based on the title of this article, never mind the video below.
Kids today play a lot of video game music on real instruments and do it often. Whether it’s games from the 80s, 90s 2000s or now, they’re playing them on real-deal gear. Why? Because they simply like to do it. Gamers, obviously, play games. And a lot of gamers are musicians.
I made the mistake of making fun of those who played video game music once. The backlash wasn’t pretty, therefore I don’t poke fun at anyone who plays game music anymore because those who play this style are passionate about it.
Here’s my advice to anyone that wants to bash on bass players who play game music: Don’t. Consider they’re actually playing bass, and usually doing it pretty well.
regardless of the insipid nature of the source – the player’s nailed it! It would sound great w/o the synth noise.
