In last week’s newsletter it was asked for you guys and gals to send us some cool stories and photos of amps and/or cabs you have, and oh yeah, you delivered; this is one of them.
(And remember, you can submit for Bass of the Week or Amp of the Week by sending an email with a short story and some photos to featureme@bestbassgear.com.)
This first amp of the week comes from Brad, who writes:
My rig consists of a Sansamp RPM preamp, a Crown XLS Drivecore 1000 power amp, a shallow SKB 3RU rack case, and a Fearful 15/6/1 cab that I built myself using the free Greenboy plans from Greenboy.us. I built the cab in the fall of 2011 using custom tinted Duratex for the finish. I am a University of Tennessee Volunteers fan and wanted my cab to reflect that so I chose orange and white for the color scheme. The cab uses 1/2″ birch ply with bracing and Neo drivers so the weight is just over 50 lbs so it weighs less than my old 2×10 rig and sounds many times better. The rig sounds amazing and I get nothing but compliments from other bass players and sound engineers every time I play it out.
While the cabinet may not be green in color, I’m sure this makes a bunch of players green with envy because they wish they had one of these setups.
Well done, Brad!
Just built a 12/6. Wonderfull. Can’t imagine wanting anything more
SOUND CLIPS!!!! C’mon, you can say, “it sounds awesome” and not post clips of some sort. 😉
This is what dreams are made of, I built my own cabs in the mid seventies with plans I got from SOR. This motivates me to do it again. AWSOME
Very, very, VERY nice rig …. and nice work, man!
greenboy designs the best bass cabs available.
Thanks for the comments, guys! I was stoked to see my rig featured. I really am super happy with the way it turned out. Pics of the build process can be found on the Greenboy fearful forums.
Also, here is a link to the build thread where I built the cab. – Brad http://greenboy.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=504
Nice job! I’ve done 2 12.6 cabs and 2 12.subs. When doing sound, I’ve run them as subs in my PA. (Gotta switch that bypasses the x-over). Amazing how hard GB’s cab’s can thunk….
