[Bass Build of the Week] Segura Bass Guitar

This week’s amazing build is the Segura Bass Guitar based off the Renaissance model. It’s a fretted custom build and here is a little bit of what the builder had to share about it:

I was inspired by the profound desire to build a traditional bass with a emphasis on modern line language that would bring the essence of the wood forward. the body and neck share the same wood, hard maple, wenge and padauk . The fretboard is cocoblo with padauk inlays. I used single coil vintage Nordstrand pickups. the electronic is an obsidian jazz bass passive setup. hardware is Hipshot complemented with Labella flat wound strings. double action truss rod. I spend the last half of my summer working on that project after long month of planing. I actually build a wood shop to make this piece. It is my first build in thirty years, not to say it was long overdue. Last time I build a bass I focused only on the shape and I thought it was time to redirect that focus on a deeper level, wood selection, general language of the object, tone, and everything else. I looked at it as an introspection to find closure in the craft.

So, what do you think of their new build? BTW – If you’re going to comment, whether it be positive or negative, please keep it constructive! We don’t approve of haters. [Comment below]

  1. What a beautiful Bass! I love cocobolo! I just wish it was active but I still would love to hear the tone of these woods built in this Bass!

  2. Beautiful! Now, let’s add some mp3’s so we can hear it!! These are all about the sound. Seems like that should be a part of the process here.
    Thanks,

  4. The DNA from this instrument is interesting:

    1. Neck thru body – Alembic
    2. Body shape/Pickups – Fender Jazz
    3. Headstock – Music Man Stingray

    I like it very much . . . Good luck & best wishes 2 U!

  6. absolutely amazing. I would have snuck a p pickup in there between the j’s, but that is likely the most beautiful j inspired bass I’ve ever seen.

  7. Lovely clean lines and the combination of woods is fantastic. I do like that this bass is back to basics with 4 strings, 2 jazz pickups and a simple (elegant) control and plug layout. Great work – very envious.

  8. Looks like a very inspirational piece. It reminds me of my Ibanez BTB1826 in the layering of woods and the zero fret. The body looks bold and I personally like a smother profile more than a box type design. Overall the bass looks great and shows a lot of detail was considered in the finished product.
