This week’s bass guitar of the week is a fretless whammy!
Builder Barton Applewhite writes:
6-string fretless bass with a Kahler tremolo. It has one EMG 45TWX pickup and Hipshot Ultralight tuners. The construction is a maple neck-thru with alder wings and a ziricote fingerboard. The finish is a bronze coating with a light black magic patina.

Well done, Barton!

All I can say is,…….. O M G,…….. WOW!!!!!
i want to know the string space
All that pegbox, with the missed opportunity to add a scroll… I weep. But, stunning, nonetheless.
I want it so bad!!!
I had a Kahler whammy on my jazz bass for a while and all it did was break strings and ruin the feel. I hope it doesn’t do the same to this beautiful piece of work!
Looks like it weighs a ton!
Why do you need a whammy on a fretless?
ditto If you can’t make your tone without a whammy on a fretless give up….
You don’t need the whammy bar, but you can pull off some inventive slides while using the bar…I like the idea myself.
Cool
