[Bass of the Week] BassMan 55 The Redeemer

The owner submitted this feature bass this week as a tribute to his freedom from addiction. [Check out pics below]

Denny writes:

I wanted something that represents who I am and where I came from. I started building bass guitars back in 2007 after I was saved and baptized  at my new church home and after I married my 4th wife Terry.  I built one similar to this and sold it to my Brother Jeff in Texas  in 2013. When I came home from vacation on that trip I decided  I wanted one for myself!

I wanted a hollow body similar to an acoustic, but yet a total electric bass. The body is pine. The back is Poplar wood from home depot, and the top is tiger maple I bought off eBay. The neck is an ebay fender p bass style neck. I reshaped the head stock hard maple neck with a rose wood fretted board.  The top has been hand drawn, burnt and painted  by me.

I’ve been clean and sober for many years and this bass represents my freedom from addiction. I started the build in august of 2013 and finished it in Jan 2014. I don’t play any more but it represents my freedom from alcohol .

Details:

Fender style tuners

Fender Jazz style Pickups

Bridge is a high mass style

25K pots for volume and tone

Black control plate

Well done!

  1. Great job! I just got my 5 month chip. Can’t wait to get a year of sobriety. Now I know something to keep me focused. Thank you for the share. You have inspired me.

  2. Beautiful bass! I’m at a year and a few months myself. Just finished a warmoth build (I definitely do not have the visual artistry you do, I’ll stick to playing)

    Keep it up

  3. Great reason for a build if ever l heard one. I wonder why you chose a jazz pickup. And what capacitor you used for tone? A few more photos would have been important. Good luck and play the thing!

  4. I like this build a lot Denny, but I appreciate the testimony behind the build even more.
The burn & paint is nicely done, a great reminder of the Rose of Sharon. (Song of Solomon 2:1)
    God Bless, brother!

  5. Congratulations on your Freedom!!! (John 8:36) Beautiful bass–it’s a poignant tribute to both the journey that you have completed and the one you continue to walk. I would love to see a picture of the rear of the bass to see that Home Depot poplar. An audio sample would be cool as well.

    Keep stridin’!
