[Bass of the Week] Big Red

See the business listing for this bass builder here

This week’s BotW that arrived in the featureme@bestbassgear.com inbox is red all over. Literally.

Steven writes:

Here is the bass I recently finished.  It’s my fourth complete build.  It is a neck through jazz bass design and features an ash neck and body with a maple fingerboard and ”tone block” at the back of the neck where the body is.

I dyed the body red and used black grain filler on the ash.  It got black hardware (much of which came from BBG).

Specs:

Bartolini Jazz pickups

Hipshot vintage style bridge

Hipshot string ferrules on the back

Gotoh tuners

SIT strings

CTS pots

Dunlop recessed strap locks

It plays nice and I like the Bartolini pups quite a bit.

    • Yes. It’s passive. I’m a simple person when it comes to electronics, and there is a pretty big variety of tones to be had with the Bart pickups. They sounds great and have a pretty high output, so they are nice and hot. Love them.

  1. I applaud your aesthetics. I recently found a transparent red Jazz bass with a maple neck — your combination — and I had to buy it, because it was the prettiest bass I had ever seen. The same goes for yours.
