A request to all that send in instruments to featureme@bestbassgear.com for Bass of the Week: Please name your basses if it’s not a name brand, because we keep having to name these things. And remember, players like it when the bass has a name to go by. Name your custom build after yourself or your company name (if you have one), or give it a name by build date such as B-130501, etc. If you want your bass to really ‘stick out’ more, name them (especially if you’re a shop that sells custom models to customers!) Thanks in advance. 🙂

I ordered a few pieces of hardware through your shop, and this is the result:
Tuners, trussrod, a modified Nordstrand MM5.2W pickup, a Nordstrand 2B MM preamp and some small other things.
We ordered the buck eye Burl through ebay. All the mahogany is some very old, very dry wood.
And the maple runners through the neck are from an old painting frame I had laying around in the shop.
The result is a stunning instrument, which I am very proud of.

It is definitely a stunning instrument! The wood is so well done that you actually notice it before seeing the guitar has fanned frets on it. Well done, Stijn!

What a beautiful instrument.
One thing I do not quite get though is all the extra wood at the neck joint. I see a lot of builders building instruments with a solid piece of wood where the upper cutaway would normally be found. If you are not putting in an upper cutaway like this one, what benefit does that give you?
It makes your neck more stiffer. I like the view of the piece next to the neck, especially how it runs into the cutaway. I think you can make it more elegant, thin that piece out, but it does not bother me. It’s not in the way of the thumb, nor the belly 😀

p.s. We named this bass: solar bass !
Gorgeous–great work!
Nice work Stijn! As much as the burl is interesting, the mahogany w/maple stripes is so pretty!
couldn’t be happier with my Solar Bass!
Thanks Stijn!
