This week’s BotW was built by JCR Luthier Bass & Guitars for Rico Pérez.
Rico writes:
Hello, I’m Jesús Rico Pérez, a bass player of Benalmádena, Spain. I have long been observed to JCR Luthier, a great professional and a nice guy, until I decided for him to fabricate the bass I wanted.
He gave me the freedom to choose all the woods and components. I chose a 5-string fretless bass, neck-through body, 5 pc. laminated hard maple neck, with 2 carbon reinforcement for more stability, 26 fret lines on a thick 8 mm. granadillo fretboard, hard maple wings with chambers, spalted maple top, and strings through body.
Mounted are a pair of Delano JSBS 5 pickups, with John East, U Retro Deluxe passive/active preamp, and 5 hipshots X-tender keys in a specially designed headstock. I can say that sounds as good as it looks!
VIDEO DEMO
Always great when we get a video of the instrument being played. And this is a real good one.
…and some photos, of course:

JCR did a fine job, well done!

A beautiful instrument, but an even more beautiful player!
That’s a beautiful and great sounding bass for sure, but the demo video left me speechless.
After it finished I just sat there and whispered “wow…”. Outstanding!
What a nice bass fella !
beautiful playing – what “depth” effect/box are you using? wow
Beautiful build, great playing, and nice to hear I am not alone in digging Michael Manring’s playing.
Awesome, bass, player, and piece.
Great playing beautiful bass like the sound fretless congratulations, I have a bass something like this to show here one day 🙂
Beautiful composition and effect, and amazing instrument!

Excellent!
Amazing player.
Great instrument, sound and looks.
It has 5 knobs, 2 of them double. What do they do. Does it even need them?
