This week’s Bass Selection comes from Mark Bombard:
“This is a mahogany and maple semi-hollow body bass I built from scratch. I started with an old 60’s Hagstrom 30 3/4” scale neck with a fender style peghead, but It now has a new rosewood fretboard with abalone inlays with dimmable LED lights behind the marker inlays and a totally redesigned peghead.
The shape is very similar and inspired by a Schecter Stargazer. It’s a bit smaller and a whole lot lighter. The pickup wiring consists of a Bartolini 3-band preamp, Bartolini Jazz neck pickup and an old Rogue bass bridge pickup that I resurfaced.
It also has a removable vinyl & foam pad on the back. This is my bass of choice for gigs these days, until I build the next one anyway.”

Featuring:
- Bartolini 3-Band Preamp
- Bartolini Jazz Neck Pickup
- Rogue Bass Bridge Pickup
- Mahogany and Maple Semi-hollow Body
- Rosewood fretboard with abalone inlays
- Dimmable LED lights behind inlays
- Removable vinyl & foam pad on the back
Well done!

very handsome bass, and looks like a dream to play
What did you use for a battery monitor? I’ve been wanting to include some sort of monitor and have settled on one.
The Low-Battery add-on board is called “LoBat” and is made by a company called PMT. It’s a very easy install and only costs around $40.
Correction, the LoBat board lists for $30.
Nicely Done!
Is that a quad of single string bridges?
nice looking bass. good choices. “from scratch” with an existing neck?
Is that a thumb rest on there? Hard to tell.
Could we see some pics of the whole bass and the headstock please?
P.s. that’s some crazy cool electronics there. 🙂
