The feature bass this week is a modded Ibanez.
The modder of this bass, Matt, writes:
I heavily modified an Ibanez bass. I bought a cheap used bass on craigslist, stripped the paint, filled the old pickup holes, routed a new single pickup hole, re-painted, custom pickguard, refinished neck and headstock, varitone switch. I basically wanted to combine characteristics of two basses that I love. I love the range, feel, and sound of my Ibanez Soundgear five strings, but I also love the look, sound, and simplicity of my Fender Precision.

Like Holy Shit! That is a Radical mod!
I hope that it sounds good.
I did some mods to my SR Ibanez also.
I had a passive pickup (Delano) put in between the 2 existing pickups, with a selector switch.
Now I can have only passive (it has it’s own volume controls without tone controls).
I can have the original active/preamp set up.
I can have a combination of active plus passive.
The bass sounds really good.
Very cool! May I ask, where exactly did you get the numbered rotary switch plate?
digikey
that thing is a beauty! congrats man!
I love it i also have an Ibanez Soundgear as my second bass and seeing this mod makes me want to do the same
You have motivated me to swap the pots on my ol’ Aria Pro II: selector dial off an old microwave for tone, dial from an old old ham-style radio for the volume. Only I know the bass has not really been modded ;p
Love the pickguard!
