The feature bass for this week was made with the goal of using nothing but Puerto Rican woods.
Builder Ramil Rodriguez writes:
I built this bass with two purposes. I wanted to design my own kind of imperial body and I wanted a bass with 100% Puerto Rican woods. It has a unique combination of tropical hardwoods. The body is made out of laurel espada and mataratón. The neck is a set thru 11 pieces espino rubial, mahogany and emajagüilla. The fretboard is a 24 medium high frets, 16″ radius made out maga as the knobs and back controls cover. It has a Nordstrand 3 way preamp with volume and blender, an active/passive push/pull switch on volume and a mid frequency push/pull 400/1000 hz switch on mod pot with Nordstrand big splits pickups. It has Gotoh bridge and Hipshot tuners. Weighs 9 pounds. Sounds amazing, very versatile.
Well done!
