This week’s Bass selection is from Steve. He took a Squier out of the box and then made it his. Here’s the story in his own words…
“This isn’t a build (I’m not a builder), but a refinish and reboot. I bought a Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass because I like the physical specs i.e.: neck thickness, body size, headstock, etc…Pretty sleek. It played pretty damn good out of the box, but the whole point is to customize and have some fun in this life, right? I stripped it, refinished it, did a bunch of fine tuning work and outfitted with all new hardware and electronics”

Nice job! Modern Squiers are so nicely made, it’s good to see them used as a starting point for a truly personal instrument.

That was a nice ‘reboot!’ You made a already good bass a “better.” The finish is a knockout!
nice, i did the opposite to my VM jazz and left it stripped, with a vintage neck fitted and a p bass pickup added

Looks great! Curious about the pick guard. I’ve got a bass similar to this one (Fender Precision Bass Special) that I want to replace the pick guard on. Since the controls aren’t ‘standard’ for a pbass I haven’t been able to find one that is premade. Any advice? Thanks!
This guard is from WD (one of the best. Black is actually black!). I drilled any extra holes.
I’ve had a Squire PJ since 91′,when I got it and opened the box it was the wrong color, but I fell in love with it. I played as out of the box for awhile, but before long it needed new pots and pickups, I put on a set of quarter pounders, and at the moment I think of the jazz p u. I hadn’t thought of a 3 way switch, but it’s in my plan now. Can anybody tell me how to wire that in parallel. I love my Squire, and the way it plays.
to get around premade pickguards that dont fit, just go to ebay or stewart macdonald, etc and buy a blank sheet of single ply or multiply pickguard materiad and design your own. its not rocket science. fairly easy.
very nice…..any extra routing needed for the new electronics ie: potentiometers, input jack?…… currently working on a PJ Affinity body in white….with Barts and SD pups…..just finished sheiding everything and find the CTS pots are too close to end of control cavity and wont fit….waiting on some Bourne’s mini pots to arrive…….good work on yours!

nice work both on the refurbish of what is arguably one of the best instruments (my opinion) for the money out there and on the playing…nice touch. I bet all the girls tell you that you have good hands 🙂 JK. Seriously nice work all around.
