The feature bass this week is from request for a “deep body semi-hollow” bass, and the builder certainly delivered!
Builder Stephan Mongeon from Stellart Guitars writes:
This Bass has been custom-built for my most loyal customer Pascal Forget. It all started from the rest of a Neck Blank that was originally built for Athena, a five string fretted bass that can be seen on my Facebook page. Pascal wanted a deep body semi-hollow instrument and the rest of the neck blank was not thick enough to accommodate the thick body, so we decided to laminate extra wood longitudinally to the neck through to have the good thickness.
The esthetic design of the instrument was conceived by my wife Ella.
The specifications are:
Semi-Hollow 6 string fretless bass
Body wood: Multi laminated Maple/Padaouk/Purple heart with book matched Cocobolo Back and a one-piece Claro Walnut top.
Neck Through: Multi laminated Purple heart/Black Gabon Ebony/Padaouk/Maple
Snakewood Fretboard with Black Gabon Ebony binding and mother of pearl side and top dots.
Snakewood headstock top veneer with Maple/Padaouk/Maple laminated under.
Hand Crafted Black Gabon Ebony Bridge with saddle slots oriented along the string direction. Black Ebony saddles with “Richard McClish (RMC)” piezo.
The pickup is a “Delano Xtender 6″ with a 3 band “F Bass” EQ and Volume control.
Piezo has Volume and Tone control.
Dual Jack Output:
Output 1: Mag/Both/Piezo
Output 2: Mag Only

Well done!

That’s beauty to die for…it’s super gorgeous.
Thanks Raffique.
I’ve never seen a neck with that bulbous shape behind the nut where many necks have a volute. Where did that design come from?
I dreamed about it a while ago.
Jaw on floor. That is one stunning instrument!
Thanks Jeff, happy that you like it.
Cheers,
Stephan
Bloody hell hate to see the price tag for this beast ,probably have to mortgage your house.
I wish !!!
Love the snakewood fretboard… very hard to find a piece wide enough for a fretboard… would love for body top, but impossible to find large enough blanks…
Exactly Mike,
This was the most expensive piece of wood for this build, not far behind was the Black Gabon Ebony for the Neck Blank.
Hope you like it.
Stephan and Ella
Beautiful work – can only imagine the time that went into that one!
To be honest, I didn’t count my time.
If I would, I doubt it would have been as beautiful. ;O)
Stephan and Ella
This is more than an instrument, it’s a piece of art.
Thanks Rob,
I am very happy that some people can see and appreciate it.
Stephan and Ella

Hi Kevin,
This Bass has infinite sustain and sounds awesome, but not being a bass player, I will let the owner give his appreciation on this page.
Stephan and Ella
Stunning!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your comment Keith, we are very happy about the result.
Cheers,
Stephan and Ella
Thanks guys, it’s really nice to read these nice commentaries. I will tell the owner that his bass is “Bass of the Week” on Best Bass Gear so he can give his impressions.
P/S: A StEllart Web site will be online in one or two months.
Cheers,
Stephan and Ella “StEllArt”
Must be nice to have a wonderfully talented wife! Just teasing…obviously you both are extremely talented and I’ve traveled much playing since 1972 and didn’t totally retire til I left Vegas 8 yrs. ago ….told ya that to say the most gorgeous looking bass I’ve ever seen and I imagine it sounds as good or better! Thanks for sharing! Gentleman who said probably have to mortgage house is probably right or at the very least a Caddy SUV.
I do still love my Linc Luthier ….just saying.
Thanks Carolyn,
I am taking this has a great honour.
Thanks to you for taking time to write these words.
You just actually put a smile on both of our faces.
I will be checking out your Linc Luthier for sure.
Cheers Carolyn
Beautiful work!
What is the scale length?
How thick is it?
How much does it weigh?
Hi Micue,
The first design criteria of Nemesis was to build an instrument with a lot of sustain. The neck through is very dense with our choice of Purple Heart/Black Gabon Ebony/Padaouk and Snakewood fretboard. The result is an instrument with infinite sustain with a beautiful tight LOW END. The Body also has these beautiful high density woods so we knew from the beginning of the project that this instrument would be in the light weight class and thats OK.
Nemesis has a 34″ Scale with a 33 fret fretboard.
It is approximately 80 mm (3.15″) thick and weigh is 5.9 kg (13 lbs)
Stephan

Thank you Pascal for your trust and dedication to StEllArt.
You have been there almost from the beginning and and thank you for it.
Your next Bass is already in the design process and I wish you many more down the road. ;O)
Stephan and Ella
From an esthetics and woodworking skill base, this bass is perhaps the most striking instrument I’ve ever seen. It just reeks taste and class! You’ve set a new standard!!
Thank you Rob,
This is very nice of you.

Eye candy
Yeah, I felt like licking it sometimes… ;O)
StEllArt
That is one of the nicest bass guitars I have ever seen, such beautiful work. You two knocked it out! Curious about the weight?
Thanks Richard, that’s nice of you.
Check my replie to Micue a little higher on this page for details.
Stephan and Ella, StEllArt
A work of art – yes “Eye candy” Rod Harper’s comments spot-on – an instrument to caress while playing.
I am not a Bass player, but I can assure you that I did caress her while Building.
Absolutely Stunning!
The layering of all those woods on the back is simply breath taking.
Bravo StEllArt, You mad genius!
Frankly, I believe that one bass puts you in a class where your peers are named Fodera, Lawrence, Bebensee, Smith, Tobias. Wonderful design and execution!
