[Bass of the Week] Ziegenfuss Signature 5

See the business listing for this bass builder here

This week’s feature bass has a generous amount of buckeye burl to it.

Builder Stephen from Ziegenfuss Guitars at www.ziegenfussguitars.com writes:

This bass was a fun commission for a new customer. I have never had the pleasure of building with buckeye burl, and frankly avoided the stuff. With the customer request to use it, it gave me the opportunity to really explore its beauty. The bass obviously features the buckeye burl top with matching pickup covers and knobs. It is set over a sassafras body, with a 5 piece maple set neck, and birdseye maple fretboard. It is packed with an 18V Nordstrand 3b-5b pre, though the customer requested to split the bass/ treble pot into separate units. We also decided to use Nordy Fat stacks with independent coil taps. All the hardware is Hipshot. This bass is also my first 0 fret application.

  1. Hey, Stephen made this bass for me! He was accomodating, knowledgeable and awesome to work with. It plays great and looks even better in person. When I approached him with the idea for a bass that would be versatile and beautiful enough to be my end-all axe, he simply said he would make that idea happen. And, here it is. I hope he reads this, as he, and you, should know how much I love this bass.
