Fabien Gilbert’s Headless 5-string

This week’s BotW comes from Fabien Gilbert of Lutece Guitars.

I wanted to share with you my last creation, a headless 5 string bass that I designed 15 years ago and finally built this summer. This is the third bass I ever made and that is including the 2 previous prototypes. It is a well balanced instrument thanks to the headless design and it sounds fantastic too.

Featuring:

Bartolini Pickups
Barolini Preamp
– Ebony fretboard with mother of pearl inlay
– 5 piece neck-thru construction
2 truss rods
– Walnut body with book-matched quilted maple inlay
– ABM headless system

Think your bass has what it takes to be a Bass of the Week? Send it in! Give us some pictures, a little background about it, and give us some specs on the gear. Check out this quick guide for submitting for BotW.

  1. Sweet !! I play a Stienberger balance is important to me plus the light weight. I had
a Rick and spent more time holding the neck
up than playing it. How about the weight of the Fabien ?

  2. Very nice craftsmanship! Very unique body style! Bartolini pick ups and preamp is excellent! However, to me ,the headless bass is hard to balance!!! I have tried The Steinberger basses on several occasions, very uncomfortable!!! Hard to balance!

  3. If the air temperature is that warm, that means the water shluod be fairly wam also. Bass are gonna be up shallow. Look elsewhere besides the little cove.Best bait would depend on where exactly you’re at. Like what state you’re fishing in. If you’re tossing lures, a buzzbait or a topwater frog would probably be your best bet. Was this answer helpful?
