The feature bass this week is a custom build by Upgreader Guitars.
Owner Dmitry Budko writes:
My name is Dmitry. I play a band called Weesp. We play progressive atmospheric alternative metal with a lot of analog synth and clean vocals. I experiment with low tunings so prefer multiscale basses. For the previous two albums I used 5 strings bass built by Stas Pokotilo. It is tuned (low to high) to G#-C#-G#-C#-F#. Now we are working on the new album and decided to move to standard tuning and go a little bit lower, so I needed a bass which I could tune to low F# (F#-B-E-A-D-G) and it will hold tuning well. I’ve looked over the market to all 6 string fanned fret basses available on the market and could not find any suitable, which had highly stable neck – with double truss rod, graphite reinforcements etc.
This is why I decided to go for a custom. Also I wanted to build two cimilar basses – 6 and 18 string (triple corse), one is green and called Tiamat, other is red and called Marduk.
First of all I wanted to find best wood supplier I can, I’ve speaked to a lot of companies and decided to go with ESPEN. Here are the specs for wood:
NECK:
– 34″-37″ scale
– 20mm string spacing

– 1st grade Zirikote fretboard
– two custom adjustable truss rods by lmii.com
– three custom graphite neck reinforcements lmii.com
– simtoms bronze frets

– Wenge AAA Back, 2pcs
– Lamination between top and back and body – Maple veneer
FURNITURE:
– ABM single saddle bridge
– Custom Delano SBC 6 HE/S dual coil humbackers
– Delano Sonar 3 MS/E – 3 band onboard electronic with selectable mid frequencies
Well done!

Just awesome!
Wow, that is gorgeous.
That’s incredible instrument !! Bill Conklin sells bass strings that would allow you to tune down below your low c Sharp to get a 20hz fundamental as your lowest string its like a .192 diameter that will rumble the place if you’ve got the amp or pA for it!
