[Bass of the Week] VOX White Shadow M Series

The feature bass this week is a mid-1980s vintage.

Owner Ken Mattholie writes:

I was looking for fretless bass that sounded great being the first criteria and also looked different from all the other fretlesses. A lot being copies of Jaco’s and I certainly don’t play that way. It tends to be driven or overdriven is nice and raw for live use which suits as I play in a trash punk Psychobilly band (The Schizophonics) U.K. It needs a new bridge but I don’t want to replace with a like for like so am looking for suggestions that would suit music styles stated above. cheers Ken London England

  1. Pretty cool – not aware of Vox basses in the 80’s. If the bridge works as-is/doesn’t have any shortcomings – why replace it. Many of the aftermarket bridges really don’t change much but the looks.

  2. Firstly thanks to bassgear for featuring my bass I just hope it doesn’t develop an ego.
Thanks for comments and suggestions. The grooves have worn on bridge ,d and g mainly and saddles have a habit of resting against each other and creating unwanted buzz so hence the need to change . all the best

  4. I used to have exactly the same bass (and original case) that I bought in Andover in the late 90’s.

Subsequently lent it to a firend (Steve) in Brighton… he moved to Ealing and sold it witout me knowing. I doubt very much that I wil see it again after near 20 years.
